Where are we today? Today we are stepping out of Florida and into Gatlinburg, Tn in the heart of the Smoky Mountains national park to celebrate Ian’s 5th birthday. These scenic town is home to one of the best homemade breakfasts in Tennessee, Crockett’s Breakfast Camp.
While founded in 2014 Crockett’s history dates back to 1875 taking it’s name from David C Maples, one of the original frontiersman who opened a small supply store at the base of Mt LeConte with his wife Mary Ogle. Crockett and Mary were known for feeding hungry travelers a homecooked breakfast. He worked as a guide helping people traverse the mountainous terrain, and was active even after nearly losing his life in a blizzard. He lived to a ripe old 88. His legacy shows in the home made offerings in the beautifully appointed restaurant. Each of the dining rooms is beautifully decorated with all the trappings of a mountain lodge and the food is incredible. They are known for their giant flapjacks.
You are greeted with a smile here at Crockett’s breakfast camp and a giant fire is always burning welcoming you in for a hearty meal to start your day or after a nice morning hike.
