Camp Cooking: Bread with Fruits – G2-5" Folding Firebox Stove with Dutch Oven Petromax ft1

Cooking outdoors on a camp fire or a hobo stove. Today we are baking a bread with fruits in a dutch oven, the Petromax ft1, one more way of baking on a Folding Firebox.

The basic recipe can be used fore a simple bread, not only for a bread with fruits. And if you like it more hearty, instead of fruits you may add some olives and/or walnuts, or onions, or bacon, or herbs, or sunflower or pumpkin seed… It’s your choice. There are no limits to your fantasy but your taste.

You can bake this bread with white flour or with wholemeal flour, just as you like it. I used wholemeal wheat flour.

The dutch oven is a Petromax ft1, cast iron, German product. The size is good for 1-2 people, perfect for travelling as long as you don’t have to carry it for long distances. Cast iron never is ultralight. 🙂 Specifications you’ll find on their website:, where you can also find bigger sizes. A dutch oven is just perfect for baking outdoors, because you will get an even heat, if you have some coals below and on top of the pot.

The stove is a Folding Firebox Gen2. I pretty much like this stove as you can feed it with so many different fuels (wood, coals, alcohol burner, gas burner etc. For more information check their website:
